So back to the real business of this blog article, Wish just invited some of the country’s biggest and legendary names in the local music scene to serve as judges and select who are 2017’s musical best in their respective categories.

Arnel Pineda

Who’ll forget the amazing success story of this new Journey lead singer? Clips uploaded on Youtube of Pineda belting “Faithfully” at local bars reached the discerning ears of the band’s keyboardist Jonathan Cain and Neil Schon in 2007, and the rest so they say is history.  Coming out of homelessness, poverty and brokenness, Arnel Pineda’s new found fame also helped bring pride to this nation.

So, come on, who needs lengthy intros of the man?

Kuh Ledesma

I have to admit I have to refer to a true-blooded Kuh Ledesma fansite  to know how multi-awarded and multi-faceted our national treasure is in and around the world. I just picked some really important highlights:

  • Kuh’s music career spans more than 35 years of performances, including 1,000 concerts, gaining numerous local awards in the music scene, 20 albums in local recording industry.
  • In the 90’s, Kuh had a series of back-to-back concerts with foreign artists like Noel Pointer, Jack Jones, and Kenny Rankin. Later with The Platters and Michael Legrand.
  • She had also performed in the POWER OF TWO concert with the country’s top artists Regine Velasquez, Pop Fernandez, and Jaya.

Noel Cabangon

With a classic and crowd fave hit “Kanlungan” attached to your name like it’s your alterego, nothing that the folk singer and composer Noel Cabangon performs are not a cause for celebration at any live performances, concert or a TEDx conference.
With Noel’s voice, a true maestro in guitar playing and impeccable repertoire of compositions, along with his conviction, he’ll surely bring tremendous help in awarding the year’s bests in the local music industry come Jan. 15.

Gino Padilla

The popular 80’s singer known for the hit song, ‘Closer, You and I’ (2006) was part of the Pepsi New Generation artists that helped launched several music careers, such as Keno, JoAnne Lorenzana, Timmy Cruz, and Raymond Lauchengco, also in the 80s.
Gino Padilla stopped singing in the year 2000 after his brother-in-law whom he considered as his best friend passed away. Sharon Cuneta produced his 2003 album, and that led to his comeback in the local music scene. He’s also artist who popularized such hits as ‘Gusto Kita’ (1991).

Jett Pangan

The Dawn’s lead vocalist and chief lyricist Jett Pangan is another great addition to the judges’ table to render his musical chops in selecting musical artistry, potential and originality.

To the younger ones, Pangan’s not only involved in his band because he’s also performing in major theatrical productions in Manila, such as Broadway faves Once on this island and the musical version of Beauty and tehe Beast. Together with his bandmates, they filmed and recorded the soundtrack of their 20th-anniversary biopic directed by Mike Sandejas, Tulad ng Dati. The film scored some awards during the 2nd Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

Ice Seguerra

OPM icon Aiza Seguerra, who recently took to Instagram to appeal to his fans to call him under his new name, Ice, will definitely boost the top-notch roster of personalities to judge the nominees in this year’s music award.

Before becoming the chairperson of the National Youth Commission (NYC) in August 2016, he is a an actor and one of the most popular musicians in the country, with a well-received debut single, “Pagdating ng Panahon.” He helped raise awareness about gender identity issues, advocating for animal rights and fight against child labor. He earned his Bacherlors in Arts and Design from the University of Santo Tomas.
